Township of Langley 2015 Economic Forum
The Township of Langley Economic Forum is being held on Thursday, November 5 at the Langley Events Centre from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. It’s free to attend and includes a luncheon.
This year’s forum theme focuses on an emerging need that stretches across Canada and that is the need for adaptable / age-friendly housing.
Population predictions over the next thirty years indicate that the Township of Langley will double in population, to over 230,000 residents, making it one of the fastest growing municipalities in British Columbia. Diversification, on many levels, including services, infrastructure, development, economy… and more will remain at the forefront as the Township strives to meet its vision and goals for sustainability. The design and construction of adaptable housing in our community plays an important role to enable citizens to experience quality of life as their needs evolve. Age-friendly development is equally integral to the Township of Langley developing a balanced, responsible and sustainable community that is rich in livability and vibrancy, as it equally promotes fiscal stability and economic growth.
The Township has lined up industry experts to tackle questions on the needs around aging in place, and they’ve also secured a panel featuring local developers sharing successes about profitable adaptable housing projects. Economist Roslyn Kunin will set the stage to frame our changing demographics, BC’s Seniors Advocate Isobel Mackenzie will talk about initiatives at the provincial level, and former premier of BC Mike Harcourt, now Board Chair of Age-Well, will wrap up the Forum with the purview of looking ahead nationally at the changing needs of society.
