The Langley RCMP’s Business Link program recently put out a bulletin on computer ransomware, which rising at an alarming rate – in 2015, Canadians were affected by 1,600 ransomware attacks a day.
Ransomware is malicious software (malware) that infects a computer, denying access to the system or data. The most common form of ransomware at present will encrypt data – victims see an onscreen alert stating their files have been encrypted (or a similar message), demanding a sum of money to restore the information.
